Great Fathers

I am super blessed with great fathers in my life.

The Very Happy First Father's day to my husband who manages to eat with our daughter in his arm.

Yuna loves you, Daddy!

I did not see either of my fathers today but here are a few of my thousands of thanks to them.

Matt, thank you so much for letting us retire earlier than you in Normandy. Without it, we might not be able to have Yuna at this point of our life.

お父さん、ユタに来てくれてありがとう。ユタを好きになって帰ってもらってよかった!!由奈も喜んでます。(Dad, thank you for coming all the way to Utah where you did not like to come. However, thank you for changing your perspective and start liking Utah. Yuna is happy as well.)

And Grandpa/Great Grandpa Tueller,

Somen

Inter-marriage between a white man and Asian woman brings cultural differences every now and then. Here is one.
My husband says "Are you tired? Let's get you some sandwich from Gandolfo." There is nothing wrong with him and his sweet kindness. My Asianness does not allow sandwich to be a comfort food. This topic was brought up again today.
The weather today was a little warmer than we liked. We were tired from piled up house chores and errands on top of the baby things. So he goes, "Gandolfo?" "Somen?" I replied.
I take a chance to introduce one of my Japanese comfort dishes that is perfectly made for hot summer day; in fact, it is so refreshing that somen was all what I ate during my horrible first trimester with an IV.
Somen is a type of oil-free noodles which is boiled and dished with a soy sauce base soup. Last summer, my husband and I attended a festival held at my dad's work. There, they had somen.

Somen was placed in a bamboo canal in which water runs constantly. People wait along side and catch somen as it floats down the canal. Yes, you need survival chopstick skills in order to eat it. Obviously, the local people were impressed with my husband's skill that they put him in the next day newspaper.

My dad is a head of the institution. So he gave a little speech to the community and the people with disabilities that he takes care of. Wonderful job!!
