Japan 2010 - 石垣島 Ishigaki Island

My testimony was strengthen during the trip to Ishigaki Island.

This is my hero who helped me overcome the trial.

In Ishigaki, David and I stayed at a minshyuku, where people opened up their houses as hotels and rent rooms. Yes, we only paid $10 each, per day. Yes, we did not expect the minshuku to be the 15th floor of a Marriott hotel. But, I did not expect to see cockroach spray in the room and sure enough, we faced cockroaches that night. Having lived for 2 years in Utah, I had not prepared to encounter unexpected Ishigakian cockroaches. I ran, screamed, sprayed, and cried to David that I would rather pay more money to stay at a nicer hotel. His reply, however, shocked me more than anything. He said,

"Really? What's so different than your house in Nagoya?"

...... I lost words. Admittedly, my family's house, being more than 60 years old, has a lot of cockroaches; in fact, I enjoy making cockroach traps and finding them there in the morning. Having lived at home for 20 years, I can easily predict where the cockroaches are at home unlike those in Ishigaki. My poor husband, being asked to understand this illogical reasoning. But man, I love you David. Thank you for calming me down with love and patientience, and thank you for giving me a blessing that I would be o.k. I felt love and protection of God through you from unpredictable evil cockroaches.
Next morning, this is what we found in front of the minshuku.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Ishigaki Branch, the only branch on this island!!

Thanks to my sweetest husband and the sure sign of God's love, I was able to continue the journey and enjoyed the following:

An awesome boat trip for snorkeling. We not only saw colorful jewel like fish but huge mantas swimming just underneath of where we were floating. Amazing!

Gurukun karaage - Fried Gurukun (a name of the fish), Okinawa's traditional food.

David's desert.

A root beer float, Japanese people think it is like medicine. A&W - a proof of the existence of American military bases.

Photobucket
Kayak through a mangrove forest on 宮良川(miyara river).

We could hear the trees talking; it was like clicking sounds but so mysterious and fascinating.

Photobucket
The mud minerals to beautify our skins. So here we were!

Lunch time.

Japanese pasta salad.

Photobucket
Katsu - fried pork, one of David's favorite dishes. Unfortunately, Nagoya is very famous for katsu, so Okinawa's was not as good for David, who was spoiled by my family in Nagoya.

Photobucket
Can't forget the very best ginger ale that is made in Ishigaki. We visited the factory.

My grandparents and aunt Hisae treated us with a stake lunch for our welcome back from the 2 week trip to Okinawa.
